Still Standing

We celebrated the 250th anniversary of our Country this year! As I reflected on the ideas of resilence, lasting values, deep roots, endurance, and inner strength I was motivated to paint an enormous tree. This painting  was inspired by the ancient Pinchot Sycamore in Simsbury, and it is my attempt to capture its essence while not getting caught up in details. It was my intention to focus on the tree's presence on the landscape suggesting its inner strength and the remarkable  fact that it is "Still Standing" just like our Country, and I am humbled while standing beneath it.
